Hamburg Süd: Double christening of the “Bahia“ and “Bahia Blanca“ in Korea

Hamburg, 31 January 2007. On Thursday, 1 February 2007, the container vessels “Bahia“ and “Bahia Blanca“ will be christened at the yard of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME) in Okpo, Korea. The sponsors of the two Hamburg Süd newbuildings are Alexandra Prinzessin zu Salm-Horstmar and Dr. Ingeborg von Schubert, Chairwoman of the Advisory Board of the Gundlach Group, Bielefeld.
The “Bahia“ and ”Bahia Blanca“ are the first of a total of six identical 3,752 TEU container ships. Shortly after christening, they will be phased into Hamburg Süd’s liner services between Asia and South America East Coast.
The “Bahia” is named after the state of the same name on the Atlantic coast of north-eastern Brazil. The name “Bahia Blanca“ has its origins in a port in the south of the Argentinean province of Buenos Aires.
